How we check listings

A facility is listed only when its own website shows drive-up units, and every listing shows the quote and the day we saw it.

Where listings come from

Each listing starts from the facility's own unit pages. If those pages show drive-up units, the facility goes in, with the words we found quoted under its name.

Ratings and review counts come with our source list, not from the facility. Each phone number's area code is checked against the facility's state, and any mismatch goes on a list for us to review by hand.

How current the listings are

Every listing shows the day we last checked its website. We checked 5,134 of 5,143 listings for this update, and the directory was last updated Oct 30, 2026.

When a recheck no longer finds drive-up units, the listing says so instead of quietly staying up.

What the stats are based on

Each number in a stats box comes from the facility websites we checked for that city or state. A number is shown only when enough sites back it up, such as at least 5 prices for a median.

Prices are the lowest monthly rate each facility listed for that unit size on the day we checked, so web-only rates count when a site shows them. The drive-up share compares confirmed drive-up facilities with every storage facility in our full list for that place. Extra Space locations are in that total but were not checked.

"Independent" means an operator whose website covers fewer than 5 of our listings.

How we rank

"Best match" orders facilities by a score that pulls each rating toward the city's average rating. The pull is as strong as 25 reviews, so it fades as a facility collects more of its own.

Score = (reviews × rating + 25 × city average) ÷ (reviews + 25)

With a city average of 4.5, a 5.0 from 4 reviews scores 4.57. A 4.9 from 1,300 reviews scores 4.89 and ranks first.

Cities with fewer than 3 rated facilities use the state average instead, since one or two ratings make a shaky average.

Listings we sort last

Facilities rated under 3.0 stars, or with fewer than 3 reviews, stay on the page but sort to the bottom. They are never used in highlights or summaries.

What Owner verified means

The tag means the operator confirmed the listing with us after we reached them at the phone or email on their own site. It doesn't move a listing up the page.

Owners can claim a listing here.

Which city pages search engines see

A city page is open to search engines when it has at least 5 facilities and 2 of these: a price median, a local note, the "Best in" cards (shown with 3 or more), or 3 or more answered questions.

Right now 322 of 463 city pages meet that bar. The rest stay up for visitors and still pass links, but ask search engines not to index them.

Fixing a mistake

Every listing has a Report a change link. We check the report against the facility's own site before changing anything, or you can use the report form directly.
